European Youth Week 2015 – Highlights

European Youth Week
Hundreds of events were organised in all 33 Erasmus+ programme countries in April and May 2015.
The theme of European Youth Week (27 May to 10 April) was helping young people get more involved in democratic life and employment. It focused on youth participation in society and empowering young people from all walks of life to promote a thriving democracy.

Highlights included a high-level debate on ‘Enhancing youth participation to prevent intolerance and anti-democratic behaviour’ on 6 May.

After the debate, 3 outstanding youth projects were presented with a ‘Youth Award’. They were selected from over 150 projects nominated by the Erasmus+ national agencies and supported by the Youth in Action and Erasmus+ programmes. See the winning projects here!

The Structured Dialogue Conference brought together representatives of youth organisations and governments from around Europe on 4-6 May.

YO!Fest, organised by the European Youth Forum on 6 May 2015 in Brussels, featured a range of events. Over 7000 young Europeans took part under the theme of ‘growing together’ and there were several workshops and debates. The role of non‑formal education in developing skills for working life was a major topic. The festival closed with a series of live concerts.

Another highlight was the launch of the Ideas Lab website. This is a platform where young people can post their ideas for projects and policies on youth empowerment, employment, entrepreneurship and global development. Other young people rate their ideas before they are sent to policymakers and hopefully turned into reality. During the high-level debate, a young representative for each project presented their ideas to the European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tibor Navracsics.
