You have an idea for a new product or service? How about setting up on your own? You could also offer existing products or services where they haven’t been available before. However extravagant your ideas may seem – work with them! Brainstorm your ideas with others, fine-tune them and start developing a business plan. Of course you don’t have to go it alone – you can set up a business with friends, colleagues or family members. It can make a great deal of sense to team up with people who contribute other entrepreneurial capabilities and experiences that complement yours.

In the beginning of 2010, the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) set up the “Gründerland Deutschland” initiative (“Germany – a nation of entrepreneurs”) to provide a multitude of information and advisory services to new entrepreneurs and all those interested in entrepreneurial self-employment. In addition to general advice on setting up your own business, it offers specialist programmes for recent graduates, for innovative technology or science based projects, for start-ups based within culture and the arts and for company succession. The initiative is supported by the Association of German Chambers of Commerce and Industry (DIHK), the German Federation of Skilled Crafts (ZDH) and the Federal Association of Liberal Professions (BFB).
