Service Civil International (SCI) is one of the world's largest international volunteering organisations dedicated to promoting a culture of peace through the organisation and coordination of voluntary projects all over the world. SCI has been organising international voluntary projects since 1920. These projects have demonstrated to be an effective way of helping to break down barriers and prejudices between people of different backgrounds and to promote a culture of peace. Every year thousands of volunteers work on international voluntary projects organised in many countries all around the world by SCI’s member - and partner organisations.
The national SCI branch in Bulgaria is called CVS Bulgaria. They organize every year different voluntary activities such as workcamps and long-term volunteering projects.
Another option to volunteer in Bulgaria is to support the national branch of the World Wildlife Fund /WWF/ which often needs volunteers for their national initiatives.
The Bulgarian Youth Red Cross is also offering numerous opportunities for volunteering.
Caritas Bulgaria is a charity, non-political, independent public organization working in close partnership with the Catholic Church and it develops its activities locally and internationally. The headquarters of the organization are in Sofia, but it has branches in Plovdiv, Ruse, Burgas, Yambol and other towns. Caritas offers different volunteer positions in the social field, in the administration of the organization and for the implementation of different campaigns and initiatives.
National Alliance for Volunteer Action (NAVA) Foundation is an organization for public benefit. The mission of NAVA is to revive the tradition of volunteerism in Bulgaria and to improve the public’s perception of volunteerism through organizing various initiatives, which include a large number of people from society, and promoting the values of volunteerism. You can contact the regional office of NAVA to check the available opportunities for volunteering.
