If you obtained your professional qualifications outside the EU, you should check with the relevant authority whether you must apply to have them recognised.

Permanent stay

Documents you must provide [permanent stay]

If you wish to work as a physiotherapist in Hungary on a permanent basis you will have to submit the following documents:

  • certified copy of your qualification, plus certified translation
  • certified copy of the transcript of the study programme from the educational institution you attended, plus certified translation
  • copy of at least 1 document proving your identity and 1 document proving your home address
  • completed application form [17 KB]
  • proof you have paid the application fee
  • any additional documentation or information that might help the Hungarian authorities assess your qualifications.

All documents – except your identity card/passport and the copy of your qualification certificate – must be in Hungarian.

You can submit documents in other languages, but each must be accompanied by a certified translation, provided by an officially recognised translator in Hungary or any other EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

You may be able to find an officially recognised translator by contacting- the relevant national translation body.

If the documents you submit are copies, they must be certified – by the authority that delivered the original document, a consulate/embassy or a public notary.

When can you expect an answer? [permanent stay]

Once you have sent your documents, the authorities have:

  • 1 month – from the time they receive your application – to acknowledge receipt and ask you for any other documents they require
  • 3 months to take a decision – after receiving all the necessary documents.

€250 (approximately), which can be paid via bank transfer to:

Temporary stay

Documents you must provide [temporary stay]

If you wish to work as a physiotherapist in Hungary on a temporary basis, you must submit the following documents:

  • notification to the responsible authority that you want to work as a physiotherapist in Hungary
  • proof of nationality (copy of passport or identity card)
  • copy of at least 1 document proving your identity and 1 document proving your home address
  • any additional documentation or information that might help the Hungarian authorities assess your qualifications
  • how long you plan to work in Hungary
  • the professional title you intend to use in Hungary
  • declaration about your liability insurance
  • license or registration number in your home country
  • certified copy of documents attesting that you are entitled to practise as a physiotherapist in your home country, plus certified translation
  • certified copy of your qualification, plus certified translation.
