Recognition of professional qualifications

Only if you want to work abroad, not for study purposes.

If you have obtained your professional qualification outside the EU, you should check with the relevant authority whether you must apply for the recognition of your professional qualifications.

Documents you must provide [permanent stay]

If you wish to work as a physiotherapist in Denmark on a permanent basis, you must submit the following documents:

proof of name, date of birth and nationality (e.g. certified copies of the relevant passport pages)
proof of any change of name
CV, listing education and work experience chronologically
certified copy or original of diploma/certificate
detailed transcript of study programme from the educational institution you attended, containing details of:
a. admission requirements
b. total length of programme
c. theory studied – subjects and lecture hours for each
d. clinical experience – departments (patient categories) and
number of weeks in each
certificate – less than 3 months old – of current professional status/certificate of good standing from the relevant health authorities in your most recent country of work and residence
The certificate must confirm that you are legally entitled to work as a physiotherapist – that you have not been suspended, disqualified or prohibited from practising
if the profession of physiotherapist is NOT regulated in your home country, proof that you have worked as a physiotherapist for at least 2 years in the last 10
Submit working contracts or attestations from employers stating that you've been working as physiotherapist and for how long
any additional documentation or information that might help the Danish authorities assess your qualifications.

All documents must be in Danish or English. You can submit documents in other languages, but each must be accompanied by a certified translation, provided by an officially recognised translator in Denmark or in any other EU country, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.

You may be able to find an officially recognised translator by contacting- the relevant national translation body.

If the documents you submit are copies, they must be certified - by the authority that delivered the original document, a consulate/embassy or a public notary.

When can you expect an answer? [permanent stay]

Once you have sent your documents, the authorities have:

1 month – from the time they receive your application – to acknowledge receipt and ask you for any other documents they require
3 months to take a decision – after receiving all the necessary documents.

Cost [permanent stay]

DKK 313 - to be paid only if your qualifications are recognised.

The Danish authorities will tell you when and where to make the payment.

Documents you must provide [temporary stay]

If you wish to work as a physiotherapist in Denmark on a temporary and occasional basis, you must submit the following documents:

written declaration, dated and signed, informing the responsible Danish authority that you intend to work in Denmark on a temporary and occasional basis, and clearly stating your occupation
The authorities will check your professional qualifications before you can start working. The declaration is valid for 1 year
proof of nationality (for example, a copy of the relevant pages of your passport)
proof of any change of name
certificate – less than 3 months old – of current professional status/certificate of good standing from the relevant health authorities in your most recent country of work and residence
The certificate must confirm that you are legally entitled to work as a physiotherapist – that you have not been suspended, disqualified or prohibited from practicing
proof of professional qualifications: certified copies of your formal qualifications, attestation of competence and/or professional experience, authorisation, etc.
