Validity is generally unlimited, but there is a 'point system' for traffic offenders.
If you are an EU citizen with a driving licence with unlimited validity issued in another EU/EFTA county, in principle your licence will have unlimited validity in Germany too. There are some exceptions, e.g. licences for certain vehicle categories such as lorries.
If you are a national of a non EU‑country or your licence was issued in one, your licence will be valid for 6 months after you register as resident in Germany. Thereafter it must be exchanged for a German licence.Help and advice
