Residence card for non-EU family members

Family members of EU citizens don't need to report their presence upon arrival in Hungary.

If they aren't EU citizens themselves, however, they must apply for a residence card if they intend to stay in Hungary for more than 3 months.

When submitting the application for a residence card the applicant is required to present the valid travel document and the documents proving the existence of family relationships, or that the applicant is entitled to stay for more than three months.

Requirements to obtain a residence card for your non-EU family members are:

  • a completed application form
  • the required annexes:  valid travel document and the documents proving the existence of family relationships, or that the applicant is entitled to stay for more than three months
  • the payment of the processing fee.

The authorities will issue a residence card for the family member who is a non-EU citizen.
The residence card is valid for 5 years.

The Office of Immigration and Nationality and its regional directorates are responsible for issuing registration certificates.
