Planned treatment

Updated : 12/2011

Finding the right hospital abroad

The best way to find a hospital or medical establishment in another EU country that offers the treatment you need but cannot get at home, is to ask your local health insurer. They might be able to recommend a hospital, and health insurance companies have special agreements with selected hospitals abroad.

Make sure to ask your health insurer for prior authorisation before going abroad for planned hospital treatment.

You should be aware that medical establishments abroad may not function in the same way your home healthcare system does.
