Legal requirements
The organisation and operation of statistics in Romania is governed by the Law on the organisation and operation of official statistics.
Statistical bodies
Official statistics in Romania are coordinated by the Institutul Naţional de Statistică, INS (National Institute of Statistics).
Types of statistics
Companies are obliged to send the authorities statistics on intra-Community trade in goods, including the movement of goods between EU countries.
Intrastat is the system used for collecting statistical data on the trade in goods between EU countries.
Administrative procedures
Submitting statistics
Economic operators who exceed the threshold values established must submit monthly statistical declarations in electronic format to the National Institute of Statistics (INS). The threshold values are 85,000 euro for procurement and 250,000 euro for intra-Community deliveries. Declarations must be submitted from the month in which such a threshold was exceeded onwards.
Declarations cover the following:
- introduction of goods: arrival of goods in Romania from EU countries;
- shipping of goods: departure of goods from Romania to EU countries.
