Legal requirements
National official statistics are recorded with the help of the Statistical Offices of the 16 federal Länder. Taking part in surveys is usually a legal requirement.
In Germany, responsibility for collecting national statistics lies with the Federal Statistical Office, a higher federal authority falling under the Ministry of the Interior. The Federal Statistical Office is responsible for producing and publishing the results at the federal level, and for collecting some of the figures itself. The Federal Statistics Act (BStatG) of 22 January 1987 sets out the obligations and competences (see particularly Section 3 on the tasks of the Federal Statistical Office).
Administrative procedures
Submitting statistics
Two online reporting procedures are available to help you with the submission of data for official statistics.
- IDEV (Internet-based data collection);
- CORE (Common Online Raw Data Entry).
For more information, see below:
Resources
Information on the collection of statistics can be obtained from the Statistical Offices in the individual Länder or the Federal Statistical Office.
