Legal requirements
Statistics bodies
In France, the organisation which compiles, analyses, produces and distributes statistics is the n ational i nstitute of s tatistics and e conomic s tudies (INSEE). INSEE data allows you to conduct studies of your own and make forecasts and decisions.
Administrative procedures
Submitting statistics
To register your business with INSEE you have to send your registration documents to the business start-up centre (CFE), which then sends them on to INSEE. Once they receive them, INSEE sends you a certificate confirming your registration in the directory, along with a CFE update notice.
Resources
Online access to structural enterprise statistics (ALISSE) allows you to position your business according to its activity sector and compare business performance by activity sector, year and country.
The computerised directory of businesses and establishments (SIRENE) identifies individuals and legal entities and their establishments at national level.
The local statistics site offers factsheets and interactive maps as well as other information for downloading (classified geographically).
The surveys and industrial statistics service (SESSI) provides information on the state of French industry, along with industrial statistics and publications.
The IndicesPro portal provides statistics on production costs and other indicators useful to business owners.
The macro-economic database (BDM) provides all the information required for analysing fluctuations in economic activity.
