Legal requirements
Statistical data relating to production, economic activity, performance and structure as well as the input of goods and foreign trade represent the starting basis for national accounting and economic policy decisions.
The submission requirement is dependent on legally stipulated thresholds set out in the Austrian Trade Statistics Act.
Administrative procedures
The notifications that companies have to send most frequently are as follows:
Intrastat notifications
Intrastat notifications are sent directly by the shipper or recipient of Community goods to Statistics Austria. These are then used to produce statistics about trade between the EU Member States. These statistics flow into the calculation of the gross national product (GNP).
Extrastat notifications
Trade with third-party countries is recorded in the form of notifications for EU foreign trade statistics (Extrastat). Notifications are produced as part of the customs procedure and are required on submission of customs documents or electronic customs declarations.
Balance of payments survey
The balance of payments is a systematic representation of the economic relations between a country or economic area and the rest of the world. International transactions involving international trade in services and international capital flows have to be reported.
