I come from a home where the entire family was engaged in voluntary work just like everybody else in the neighbourhood, neither more nor less. Thus, I played handball at junior level in the AGF football club and my home of birth is actually a housing cooperative, albeit a small one.

This report describes the stay of Veronika Tomanová, reporter for the European Year of Volunteering, in Slovakia from 1 to 14 November 2011. During her stay, the author produced two documentary shorts on Slovak volunteering. Two organisations were featured, i.e. Betánia Senec and Depaul Slovensko.
