Personnel : the Commission appoints a Deputy Director-General for Enlargement

Today the Commission appointed Mr Jan TRUSZCZYŃSKI Deputy Director-General of DG Enlargement.

Mr. Truszczyński will work closely with the Director General on the overall management of the DG and notably on the information and communication strategy.

Mr Jan TRUSZCZYŃSKI, 56, Polish, is currently Managing Director of the Foundation for Polish-German Cooperation in Warsaw.

From 2001 to 2005 Mr Truszczyński was first Undersecretary of State, then Secretary of State in the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In this capacity, he was the Polish Chief Negotiator, responsible for Poland’s EU accession negotiations.

Before that, Mr Truszczyński was Ambassador of Poland to the EU in Brussels from 1996 to 2001.

Mr Truszczyński is expected to take up his duties around the New Year.
