Commissioner Andor welcomes European Parliament's adoption of Posting of Workers Enforcement Directive
"I welcome today's approval by the European Parliament of the proposed Directive to better enforce EU rules on the posting of workers. It sends a clear signal on the eve of the May European elections that Europe does not accept fraud and abuse at the expense of posted workers.
"The European Parliament has recognised the political importance of putting in place new tools to safeguard posted workers' rights, strengthen the legal framework for service providers and building up trust in the Single Market. They have demonstrated once again Europe's commitment to tackle 'social dumping'. Europe's labour market should be about creating more and better jobs, and not about a race to the bottom.
"The approved text is balanced and contains a comprehensive package of appropriate measures to ensure better enforcement and implementation of the rules governing the posting of workers. Once definitively adopted by the EU's Council of Ministers, the Directive will benefit all involved. On the one hand, it will guarantee a level playing field, contributing to fairer competition in the cross-border provision of services. On the other hand, it will improve the protection of posted workers' rights by preventing fraud, especially in some sectors such as construction and road haulage.
"A clear and transparent legal framework enforcing the rules on posting of workers is now only one step away. I urge the Council of Ministers to definitively adopt the Directive as soon as possible".
