Brussels, 20 November 2012 President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso welcome UK announcement on Northern Ireland as G8 Summit venue

President Van Rompuy and President Barroso welcome the announcement made by Prime Minister Cameron to hold the G8 Summit under the UK Presidency in Northern Ireland. This choice underlines the transformation that has taken place in Northern Ireland, to which the European Union has contributed, notably through the Peace Programme of funding for projects which help reconcile communities.

The President of the European Council and the President of the Commission confirm their participation in the Summit - which will take place on June 17 -18, 2013 - and look forward to working with Prime Minister Cameron for a successful G8 Presidency.
