Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union on the alignment of certain third countries with Council Implementing Decision 2012/171/CFSP implementing Decision 2010/639/CFSP concerning restrictive measures against Belarus and Council Decision 2012/212/CFSP amending Decision 2010/639/CFSP concerning restrictive measures against Belarus

On 23 March 2012, the Council adopted Council Implementing Decision 2012/171/CFSP1. The Council Decision updates and amends the list of persons and entities subject to restrictive measures as set out in the Annex V to Decision 2010/639/CFSP.

On 23 April 2012, the Council adopted Council Decision 2012/212/CFSP2. The Council Decision amends Article 3 (1) of Decision 2010/639/CFSP, ensuring that funds or economic resources can be released or made available for the official purposes of diplomatic missions or consular posts or international organisations enjoying immunity in accordance with international law.

The Acceding Country Croatia*, the Candidate Countries the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia*, Montenegro*, Icelandand Serbia*, the Country of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidate Albania and the EFTA country Liechtenstein, member of the European Economic Area, align themselves with these decisions.

They will ensure that their national policies conform to these Council Decisions.

The European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it.

* Croatia, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia continue to be part of the Stabilisation and Association Process.

+ Iceland continues to be a member of the EFTA and of the European Economic Area
