Mergers: Commission clears acquisition of joint control of The Aibel Group by Ratos and Ferd Aibel Holding
The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the proposed acquisition of joint control of the Swedish Aibel Group by Ratos AB of Sweden and Ferd Aibel Holding AS, ultimately controlled by Ferd SA, both of Norway. Aibel provides engineering, procurement, construction and installation services to offshore and onshore oil and gas production facilities, mainly on the Norwegian Continental Shelf. Ratos is a private equity conglomerate listed in Sweden. Ferd is a family owned Norwegian industrial and financial group that owns several companies in a broad range of sectors. The Commission concluded that the transaction would not raise competition concerns, in particular because the parties' activities do not overlap and the vertical relationship between Aibel and a Ratos subsidiary active in hydraulic piping solutions is minor. . The case was examined under the normal merger review procedure. More information is available on the Commission's competition website, in the public case register under the case number M.6819 .
