Commissioner Š.Füle met Astrid Thors, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities
Brussels, (17th September) - Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle met with Astrid Thors, the newly appointed OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities today.
In their first meeting after Ms Thors took office on 20 August 2013, Commissioner Füle underlined the importance the European Commission attaches to the protection of minorities in the enlargement countries and in the countries of the Eastern Partnership. With regard to the enlargement process, protection of minorities is a key element of the Copenhagen political criteria.
Commissioner Füle gave an overview of the progress made, but also highlighted the important work that still needs to be done, especially as regards the integration of the Roma population. Protecting the most vulnerable groups and empowering their inclusion will remain a priority for the European Commission in the years to come.
