Ukraine: With P.Poroshenko about Association Agreement and reforms
Brussels (30th August) – To conclude a series of this week´s meetings on Ukraine, Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle held talks with deputy chairman of the European Integration Committee of the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) Petro Poroshenko in Brussels on Friday.
Their discussions focused on the actions needed from the Ukrainian government and the Verkhovna Rada for the signature of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement at the Eastern Partnership summit in Vilnius this November. Commissioner Füle highlighted important issues related to the 11 benchmarks needed for a successful signature of the Agreement and timely implementation of the necessary reforms.
They also touched upon developments in the region, including the trade relations with Russia. Commissioner Füle assured Mr Poroshenko that the European Union supports Ukraine on its way towards signing the Association Agreement and believes that it would bring benefits to all sides and would not be at the expense of Ukraine's relations with Russia or other neighbours.
