High Representative Catherine Ashton appoints new Heads of EU Delegations to Peru and Serbia

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy/Vice President of the Commission, announced today the appointment of two new Heads of EU Delegations.

Irene Horejs has been appointed Head of the EU Delegation to Peru. Currently Head of the EU Delegation to the Dominican Republic (and Cuba prior to October 2012), she was previously Head of Unit for Human Development, social cohesion and employment in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Development and has also served as Head of the former European Commission Delegations to Mali and Niger.

Michael Davenport has been appointed as Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia. Currently the UK Ambassador to Serbia, he has previously served as Director for Russia, the South Caucasus and Central Asia in the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and as Deputy British Ambassador to Egypt.

High Representative Catherine Ashton said: "I am delighted to announce the appointment of these excellent candidates to head up the EU's Delegations in Peru and Serbia. Their talent and expertise are significant assets for the EU's external action and I look forward to working with them in their new roles".

These appointments are part of the 2013 rotation exercise within the European External Action Service (EEAS).

NB: To complete appointments, an accreditation request for a new Head of Delegation is sent to the host country. The selected candidate may take up duty only once accreditation of the host country has been granted and a number of administrative formalities have been completed.
