Press points by Commissioner Štefan Füle following his meeting Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Judeh in Amman
''I am glad to see EU - Jordan relationship and cooperation growing stronger and stronger even as we face more challenges. And the credibility of Jordan is getting stronger and stronger despite the pressure from the Syrian crisis and tens of thousands – hundreds of thousands - of refugees.
The focus on transition agenda, the focus on continuing with the reforms is something that we very much appreciate and we will continue to support it. But I have brought also some good news concerning the continuation of our support in dealing with the consequences of the Syrian crisis. We have allocated to Jordan additional 50 million of euros – half of it will be made available within days through direct budget support. Our support is going to increase as we would like to know more from our Jordanian partners how we could help particularly the host communities in the north, to strengthen their capacity to welcome the many refugees from Syria, while we of course continue – and I am very happy to see Cathy Ashton coming very soon to Jordan - also a stronger cooperation in trying to find a political solution to the crisis that obviously influences not only the situation in Syria itself or but also the greater neighbourhood.
So the message I brought is not only about solidarity and how important it is to see Jordan's credibility and stability to be strengthened - but the message is also about us being able to widen support through concrete deeds in case of both challenges Jordan is currently facing: the transition and reforms, and also challenge caused by the Syrian tragedy.
Thank you very much.''
