Donor Conference for development in Mali: Media Advisory

What: The Donor Conference for Development in Mali (“Together for a New Mali”) is a high-level event organised jointly by the European Union and France in close collaboration with Mali.

Why: The aim of this conference is to mobilise and coordinate support from the whole international community for Mali’s development.

Several Heads of State and Government from the region will attend, together with representatives at ministerial level. Once the Malian Government has set out its development priorities for 2013-14, the Conference will express its support for Mali's recovery strategy, and the financial commitments of the international community will be recorded.

When: 15th May 2013

The conference starts at 9.00 and it ends with a signature ceremony of four financial agreements with Commissioner Piebalgs and Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs Coulibaly, and a press conference foreseen at 17.30h with Presidents Francois Hollande, José Manuel Barroso and Dioncounda Traoré. Minister Laurent Fabius, President Herman Van Rompuy, Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva and the Deputy Minister Pascal Canfin will also attend the event to give a public address.

For security reasons and because of the limited amount of space in the Jacques Delors building the number of journalists authorised to attend the conference will be strictly limited.

Registration in advance is compulsory for journalists via: (until May 7th at 10pm).

Services at the disposal of the media:

  1. A listening room (room 51), where the images and sounds of the plenary session will be transmitted (in English and French versions)

  2. A working room on the 5th floor for around 30 journalists. This room is equipped with tables, chairs and Wi-Fi, but not with printers or photocopiers

  3. An "interview corner" (room 63): this is also a listening room and holds a backdrop for interviews and photos. This room is accessible only to those who show a document proving they have a meeting with a delegate participating in the conference and who are accompanied by a press officer employed by the European Commission or the subcontractor.
