Preparation of the Agriculture/Fisheries Council of January 23, 2012
The Agriculture & Fisheries Council will meet in Brussels on Monday, 23 January (starting at 11 a.m.). It will be chaired by Mr Mette Gjerskov, Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. Commissioners John Dalli and Dacian Cioloş will represent the Commission at the meeting. The "Health (SANCO)" issue will be dealt with in the morning, "Agriculture points" both in the morning and afternoon.

The Danish Presidency will outline the main priorities in the field of agriculture, food safety and fisheries for the first semester of 2012.

CAP Reform Package
Following the publication last October of the Commission's proposals for reforming the Common Agriculture Policy after 2013 (See IP/11/1181 and MEMO/11/685), the Council will have a discussion on the Common Organisation of the Markets in agricultural products (usually known as the "Single CMO" Regulation), based on a Presidency questionnaire.

Any Other Business (AOB)
The Commission will present to the Council its recent Communication on the European Union Strategy for the Protection and Welfare of Animals 2012-2015 (see IP/12/28 and MEMO/12/18)
In the margins of the Council, Ministers will attend an event in the Berlaymont marking the 50th Anniversary of the CAP – see 50th anniversary website (active this afternoon).
