Statement by Commissioner Füle on the case of Mrs Pinar Selek
Today, the Istanbul 12th Heavy Penal Court has acquitted Pinar Selek. I sincerely hope that this ruling puts an end to this judicial process. Pinar Selek's case has been ongoing for more than 12 years. Since its beginning, the Commission has been following it closely – as it has raised many concerns as to the right to a fair trial within a reasonable period of time, one of the fundamental rights enshrined in the European Convention of Human Rights.
