Message of condolences from President Barroso to Ms Julia Gillard, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia
"On behalf of the European Commission, I would like to express my sympathy and concern in relation to the current extensive flooding in Queensland. I am particularly sorry to hear of the loss of life which has occurred.
The scale of the flooding is enormous but the reaction of the Australian people and authorities is impressive.
Naturally, the European Union stands ready to help out in any way it can, should you judge such assistance to be necessary."
