Message of sympathy from President Barroso to Barack Obama, President of the United States of America, following the storms and tornadoes in the southern United States
"The news and images of the devastation and the terrible ravages caused by the storms and tornados that killed hundreds and injured thousands across the South of the United States of America have filled me with grief and sorrow. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and with the men and women engaged in the enormous emergency response and recovery efforts now under way from Texas to Virginia and to Georgia.
In the name of the European Commission, as well as on my own behalf, allow me to extend to you and your people our heartfelt condolences. Please be assured that the European Union stands ready to offer assistance if needed and to work with your Government to provide relief to the affected communities."
