Message of congratulations by President Barroso to Mr Valdis Dombrovskis, Prime Minister of Latvia
"Dear Mr Dombrovskis,
On behalf of the European Commission and myself, I would like to congratulate You on Your re-appointment as Prime Minister of the Republic of Latvia.
The convincing mandate that Your government has received from the Latvian voters underlines the progress made under the economic stabilisation programme. Under Your leadership, Latvia has set an example of resolve and determination in addressing economic imbalances. It is vital that this momentum is carried forward. The recent downturn has reaffirmed the importance of sustainable fiscal policies and coordinated economic governance in the EU. More than ever, the commitment to solidarity and European democratic values remains at the core of our joint efforts to build a prosperous and competitive European Union.
I wish You success and continued resilience in your work as Prime Minister. I and my services are looking forward to working with You towards successfully completing the economic stabilisation programme and laying groundwork for Latvia's accession to Euro area.
Please accept, dear Mr Dombrovskis, the assurances of my highest consideration.
José Manuel Durão Barroso"
