Message of condolence from President Barroso to Mr Jerzy Buzek, President of the European Parliament on the passing away of Egon Klepsch, President of the European Parliament from 1992 to 1994 and long-time chairman of the EPP group
"On behalf of the European Commission, I would like to offer you my condolences on the death of Egon Klepsch, President of the European Parliament from 1992 to 1994 and long-time chairman of the EPP group.
Egon Klepsch, who had personally experienced war and displacement, tirelessly worked for overcoming the division of Europe and advancing the European integration. Pursuing his political goals with determination, he greatly contributed to fully developing the role of the European parliament as the representation of the citizens of the Union.
Egon Klepsch will be remembered as an impressive personality and an enthusiastic European. Today, our condolences also go to his family."
