President Barroso has sent a message of condolences to Prime Minister Zapatero on the tragic train accident in Spain this morning:

"I have just been informed about the terrible train accident that took place last night in Castelldefels. The passing away of twelve people, most of them young people, knocked over by the train, is a tragedy and provokes in me a special emotion.

I would like to express, on my behalf and on behalf of the Commission, my condolences to the victims and the tragedy it represents for the families. With this message, I would extend to you my support and ask you to convey, on my behalf and on behalf of the Commission, our condolences to the families."
