During his first bilateral visit to Cyprus, the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, reappointed Mr Pieter Van Nuffel as his Personal Representative to the Good Offices Mission of the United Nations in Cyprus. Mr Van Nuffel was first appointed to the post in July 2012.
President Juncker said: "I am delighted to announce the re-appointment of Pieter Van Nuffel as my Personal Representative in the Cyprus settlement negotiations. He will be reporting personally to me. He will assist the parties in the settlement talks with technical and legal expertise and will ensure that any solution will be compatible with European law and European values."
In his position, Mr Van Nuffel will continue to provide legal and practical advice to the UN Good Offices Mission on EU-related matters and act as a liaison between the UN Good Offices Mission and the European Commission.
