European Commission appoints new Head of the Regional Office in Milan
Brussels, 2 April 2012 – Today, Mr. Fabrizio Spada takes office as Head of the Regional Office in Milan.
Mr. Spada, currently the Press Officer of the European Commission Regional Office in Milan, brings over 15 years of service in the European Commission to this new position.
Since joining the European Commission in 1996, he has worked in the Directorate-General responsible for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion and in the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development. During this time, he worked on European Social Fund Operations and the monitoring of national employment and social inclusion action plans. He also worked on legislative and matters concerning national and regional rural development programmes in the Member States.
Mr. Spada's rich experience and his background in economics, finance and law should enable the Commission Regional Office in Milan to play a key role in communicating with local citizens and the media. Moreover, his previous experience and sound knowledge of the workings of a Commission Regional Office will be a useful asset for a close and effective cooperation with the Italian authorities as they prepare to take up the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2014 as well as the Milan EXPO 2015 on the theme of 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life'.
The Commission has Representations in all 27 EU Member States and in addition Regional Offices in Barcelona, Belfast, Bonn, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Marseille, Milan, Munich and Wrocław. They inform the media and public about EU policies and report to the Commission on significant developments in the country.
