European Commission appoints new Head of Representation in Luxembourg
Brussels, 26 August 2011 – Mr. Georges Bingen will take office as Head of the representation in Luxembourg on 1 September 2011.
Mr Bingen has been working as the Head of the 'People' Programme unit in the European Commission's Directorate-General for Education and Culture since 2010. He has degrees in economics and in econometrics.
Between 1981 and 1986, Mr Bingen worked as a researcher at the Free University of Brussels (ULB) and at the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, Ispra, in Italy. Subsequently he worked as a technological consultant for the European Commission's Directorate-General for Energy. From 1987-1994, he was an economic advisor at the Central Statistical and Economic Study Department of the Ministry of Economic Affairs in Luxembourg.
In 1994 he joined the European Commission's Directorate-General for Research as a scientific officer. He was appointed Head of Unit in 2000 where he was responsible first for the implementation of the Marie Curie Fellowships and later for the human resource policy in the European Research Area.
Mr. Bingen's broad experience will help the Representation in Luxemburg to play a key role in communicating with local citizens and the media, as well as boost relations between the European Commission and national and local authorities as well as other stakeholders.
The Commission has Representations in all EU Member States. They represent the Commission in the Member States, inform the media and public about its policies and report to the Commission on significant developments in the country.
