Tax policies for a post-crisis world: Commissioner Šemeta opens Brussels Tax Forum

Algirdas Šemeta, EU Commissioner for Taxation, Customs, Audit and Anti-fraud, will today open the 4 th Brussels Tax Forum, for which this year's topic is " Tax Policies for a Post-Crisis World". The conference will focus on the lessons to be learned for taxation from the financial crisis, and the key role that tax policies can play in rebuilding Europe's economy and ensuring sustained growth. The 2 day conference brings together around 500 participants from all over the world, including policy makers, high-level experts and a broad spectrum of stakeholders. Among the speakers at the Forum today are Carlos Ocaña Spanish Secretary of State for Finance, MEP Sharon Bowles and Mario Monti, who will present his views on the central role taxation should play in the re-launch of the Internal Market. Commissioner Semeta, MEP Bowles and Secretary of State Ocaña will give a press conference at 15.30 this afternoon ( Jean Durieux Room, Charlemagne, Rue de la Loi, 170 – 1040 Brussels).
