Fast track relief funding for Chile earthquake victims: 3 million EUR decision adopted
Following the statement by President Barroso yesterday, a fast-track "primary emergency" decision has been adopted by the European Commission providing 3 million EUR for immediate relief following the Chile earthquake. The funds are managed by ECHO, the Commission department dealing with humanitarian aid and civil protection, under the responsibility of Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva.
Mrs Georgieva stressed: "As an act of solidarity with the Chilean people we are making 3 million EUR available immediately to organisations working on the ground, so they can step up their response in the first, most critical days after the earthquake
