December 2010: Flash Consumer Confidence Indicator
After 6 months of continuous improvement, the DG ECFIN flash estimate of the consumer confidence indicator for the euro area signals a fall in December 2010 (down to -11.0 after -9.4 in November). Confidence declined also among EU consumers, but to a lesser extent (-12.1 after -11.0 in November).
Computation of Flash CCI
To compute the flash consumer confidence indicator for the EU and euro area, DG ECFIN (Directorate General for Economic and Monetary Affairs) uses the data available on the cut-off date. The estimation procedure combines historical data with information from those Member States for which data are available in the reference month. Experience has shown this procedure to be statistically reliable.
Further information on the computation procedure can be found in the European Business Cycle Indicators of January 2010.
