This visit will enable the Commissioner to hold talks with the Congolese authorities on humanitarian, political, security- related and development aspects of the situation in North Kivu.
It will also provide an opportunity to establish contact with the new government and to clarify bilateral cooperation between the EU and the DRC.
The Commission is due to sign the 10th European Development Fund's National Indicative Programme, involving a total of € 514 million.
In the course of the mission, Mr Michel is expected to hold a meeting with the President, Joseph Kabila, and other high-ranking Congolese political figures, as well as with representatives of the international community.
