Mergers: Commission approves planned acquisition of Inopart by Plastic Omnium
European Commission - IP/06/1492 30/10/2006
Brussels, 30th October 2006
The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition by the French company Plastic Omnium of the French company Inopart. After examining the operation, the Commission concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it.
Plastic Omnium manufactures automobile components and plastics products, and provides environmental services. Inopart is active in the design and production of components in composite and thermoplastic materials, sold to automobile and lorry manufacturers.
Plastic Omnium is in particular active in the production of bumpers. However, Inopart makes only residual and declining sales of bumpers to car manufacturers, so that the overlaps brought about by the planned operation would be very modest. Consequently, the Commission has concluded that the proposed transaction would not give rise to any significant reduction of competition.
