The Energy and Transport DG holds its Local Energy Action Conference on 28-29 November in Brussels

The Energy and Transport Directorate General organises on 28-29 November in Brussels its yearly Conference on Local Energy Action under the Commission's ManagEnergy Initiative. The 2002 Conference brings together energy management agencies from EU and Candidate Countries working at local and regional levels on renewable energies, energy efficiency and clean urban transport. The Conference should provide an excellent opportunity to gain valuable experience and information on local energy issues.

Offering a platform for sharing information and expertise on current energy issues, the ManagEnergy Conference will address in particular:

  • New and forthcoming Community Energy and Transport legislation with particular relevance to local conditions

  • Innovative Financing Schemes

  • The new Intelligent Energy for Europe programme

The conference will also provide an opportunity for local energy agencies to address general issues such as networking at European level and improving communication channels with local decision-makers.

Key-note speakers and Round Table participants at the ManagEnergy Conference 2002 will include Mr Lamoureux, Director General of the Energy and Transport DG of the European Commission, Ms Rothe, Ms Schierhuber and Mr Turmes, Members of the European Parliament, Mr Knud Pedersen - Deputy Director General of the Danish Energy Authority for the Danish Presidency, as well as prominent Communities, Associations and Networks representing key European actors at local and regional levels.

The whole conference will be transmitted in five languages live on the Internet, and it will be possible to join interactive Internet Chats on selected topics with the Conference audience in Brussels. Additionally, a number of local and regional energy management agencies and other actors will organise simultaneous media-conferences at local level, based around the Internet transmissions. Full video recordings and proceedings will be available on the managEnergy web site after the Conference.
