Milan, 13 March 2014
EIB lends €115 million for A2A’s investment programme
Support for integrated waste management and hydropower investment
The European Investment Bank (EIB) and the multi-utility A2A have signed a 15-year €115 million loan agreement to finance integrated waste management and hydropower investments.
The integrated waste management investments (A2A’s environment sector) comprise:
The hydropower schemes (A2A’s energy sector) are aimed at maintaining and increasing the energy efficiency of plants located in Lombardy and Calabria.
All schemes meet the EIB’s eligibility requirements for financing in the energy and environment sectors. They will lead to an increase in power generation from renewable sources and more efficient material recovery, with resultant environmental benefits. At the same time, they will help to improve the safety and reliability of the plants concerned.
Today’s agreement is in line with A2A’s financial strategy of lengthening the average duration and reducing the cost of its debt and diversifying its financing sources. It will also serve to strengthen relations between the A2A Group and the EIB.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the long-term lending institution of the European Union owned by its Member States. It makes long-term finance available for sound investment in order to contribute towards EU policy goals.
A2A is the largest multi-utility in Italy. The A2A group operates in the energy sector in four areas of activity: energy (production of electrical power and sale of electrical power and gas), environment (collection and processing of urban and industrial waste), heat (cogeneration and district heating for urban use) and networks (distribution of electrical power and gas, and integrated water cycle). The Group also has a presence abroad through operations in the major European electricity and gas markets, hydroelectric power production and distribution of electrical power in the Balkans, and construction of waste processing plants in various European countries. In 2012, the Group recorded a turnover of 6.5 billion euros. A2A is listed on the Italian Stock Exchange.
