Production in construction down by 0.5% in euro area in June 2012 compared with May 2012 - Down by 1.7% in EU27

In the construction sector, seasonally adjusted production fell by 0.5% in the euro area (EA17) and by 1.7% in the EU27 in June 2012, compared with the previous month. In May 2012, production decreased by 0.2% in the euro area, but increased by 1.2% in the EU27. Compared with June 2011, production in June 2012 dropped by 2.8% in the euro area and by 5.8% in the EU27

CAP: Commission launches a call for tenders for an analysis on future developments in the milk sector

The European Commission has launched a call for tenders for an analysis on future developments in the milk sector, focussing on the market situation from 2015 onwards when the current production quota system ends. Building on the opinions of a group of highly reputed independent experts, the aim of this project is to identify major future trends, driving factors, perspectives and challenges for the EU milk sector following the abolition of the milk quota system in 2015. The analysis will focus on two main themes: i) market balance and competitiveness of the European milk sector and ii) sustainable milk production in the EU including its territorial dimension. The deadline for submitting offers is 8 October 2012, and the Commission intends to award the contract by the end of 2012. New EU support to save mothers' lives by improving health services in Zimbabwe

The European Commission adopted a decision to increase the support to vulnerable women and their families. The main objective is to contribute to reduce maternal mortality from 695 in 1999 to 174 deaths per 100,000 live births by 2015. A total of 105 maternity waiting homes will be renovated and refurbished.
