India: EU reaches out to victims of Assam floods

The European Commission has responded to Indian monsoon floods in Assam by providing €2 million to assist people who have been most affected by the recent disaster.

Commission clears acquisition of Elster by Melrose

The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of Elster Group SE (Elster), of Germany, by Melrose plc (Melrose), of the UK. Melrose is active in the acquisition of underperforming industrial businesses and provision of management services. Elster manufactures and supplies gas, electricity and water meters and related services. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

Commission clears the acquisition of all the assets of Petroplus Raffinerie Ingolstadt, Petroplus Deutschland and Petroplus Bayern by the Gunvor Group

The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the acquisition of control of all the assets of the insolvent companies Petroplus Raffinerie Ingolstadt GmbH, Petroplus Deutschland GmbH and Petroplus Bayern GmbH ("the Target Business", Germany), by way of purchase of assets. Gunvor is active in the trade, transport and storage of crude oil, refined mineral oil products and other energy products. The Target Business is active in refining of crude oil and marketing and distribution of mineral oil products and petrochemical products to national and international wholesalers and industrial customers, as well as small and medium sized enterprises and households. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

Commission clears acquisition of joint control of Mitsubishi Elevator Singapore by Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation

The European Commission has granted clearance under the EU Merger Regulation to the proposed acquisition by the Japanese companies Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation of joint control over Mitsubishi Elevator Singapore, which is currently controlled by Mitsubishi Corporation. Mitsubishi Elevator Singapore is a Singaporean company active in the supply, distribution, installation and maintenance of elevators and escalators in Singapore. Mitsubishi Corporation is a general trading company active in various industries, including energy, metals, machinery, chemicals, food and general merchandise. Mitsubishi Electric Corporation is active in the manufacture and sale of electric and electronic equipment used in energy and electric systems, industrial automation, information and communication systems, electronic devices, and home appliances. The operation was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.

L'Union européenne renforce la lutte contre la pauvreté au Bénin

L'Union européenne a adopté un nouveau Contrat de bonne gouvernance et de développement au Benin pour soutenir les efforts du pays à réaliser sa politique de croissance et à réduire la pauvreté. Le Contrat couvre un éventail élargi d'actions concrètes dans les domaines des finances publiques, de l'éducation, de la santé et de l'eau. Mergers: Commission approves acquisition of Dutch public sector consultancy firm BMC by Dutch banks ABN AMRO and ING.

The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of the Dutch public sector consultancy and management firm BMC Investments B.V. by banks ABN AMRO and ING, also of The Netherlands. The Commission's investigation confirmed that the operation would not raise competition concerns because it would not significantly alter the market structure.

European Commission supports reforms in Moldova

The European Commission announced today new support of €94 million for the Republic of Moldova. Part of the Annual Action Programme 2012, the new funding will focus on reforming the administration of justice, enhancing local and regional development, improving the system of vocational education and training, as well as preparing ground for the new bilateral agreements with the EU.

L'Union européenne soutient l'accès à la santé pour 4 millions de personnes en Tunisie

La Commission européenne a adopté un nouveau projet d'une valeur de 12 millions d'euros visant à réduire les inégalités d'accès à la santé dans 13 régions les plus défavorisées à l'Ouest et au Sud de la Tunisie qui représentent 40% de la population tunisienne.
