Press pack: Energy and climate change

Climate action - Energy for a changing world

Climate change and energy are some of the biggest challenges facing mankind in the coming years.

In March 2007, EU leaders agreed to cut CO2 emissions by at least 20% by 2020, (30% if global targets can be agreed on), and to set a binding 20% target for the use of renewable energy sources. The EU currently takes an active part in negotiations for a post-Kyoto climate regime.

The EU’s fight against climate change goes hand-in-hand with an ambitious energy policy. The challenge is to spark a new industrial revolution that will deliver a low-energy economy, whilst making the energy we consume more secure.
