The annual EU Young Translator contest Juvenes Translatores takes place today from 10 to 12 Brussels time in 749 selected secondary schools from all over the European Union. Two to five pupils per school have two hours to translate a one-page text in any of the 552 language combinations of their choice from among the EU’s 24 official languages. For the first time students can translate from or into Croatian, and 12 schools from Croatia will take part. The original texts are about European citizenship, the theme of the current European Year.
