Frailty is a (multidimensional) geriatric concept that referes to the increased vulnerability to stressors. Frailty consists of biological, physiological and psychological aspects.
Understanding frailty is a key challenge from both a clinical and a public health perspective, since it may be a reversible precursor of functional dependence. A clearer, improved understanding of the pathway from health to frailty and disability is necessary for prevention and early diagnosis interventions.
This conference will address the key risk conditions of frailty, paying particular attention to amongst others, malnutrition, cognitive and functional decline, interventions to overcome frailty and screening.
Tonio Borg, Commissioner for Health and Consumer policy, will deliver the opening speech at the conference.
