The opening ceremony of the Lithuanian presidency of the Council of the EU will take place on 5 July.
Lithuania joined the EU in 2004, it will hold the EU Presidency for the first time.
During its Presidency, the country will host more than 200 events. These will include 15 informal meetings of ministers, some 60 conferences and seminars, more than 130 meetings of highest-ranking officials and experts, and 11 parliamentary events organised by the Seimas.
One of the largest political multilateral event of the Presidency’s period will be the EU Eastern Partnership Summit hosted in Vilnius. Vilnius will be expecting heads of 28 EU Member States, political leaders from six Eastern Partnership countries, and representatives from the EU’s and international financial institutions.
