This conference will place EU research at the centre of a global discussion on the scientific response to global societal challenges, bringing together scientists and science policymakers from 100 countries.

The event will come at a crucial time for the future of R&D funding in Europe. The EU’s institutions are currently negotiating legislative proposals for R&D funding over the period 2014 to 2020. The European Commission has proposed Horizon 2020, the next Framework Programme for Research and Development. The Commission proposals for EU Cohesion Policy over the same time period also include significant levels of support for R&D capacity building.
