Towards a more responsible use of the internet

When: 06/03/2013 at 09:00
Where: EESC Building - room JDE 52 - Brussels, Belgium
Topic: Science and technology
Organiser: European Economic and Social Committee

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is organising a conference titled "Towards a more responsible use of the internet: The European civil society perspective". The internet and online communication technologies have triggered the increasing development of flexible tools for culture, work and free time. At the same time, however, they have allowed potentially harmful, illegal and risky activities and content to rapidly expand in the cyberspace. These opportunities and challenges, stemming from the use of information and communication technologies (ICT), touch upon issues of fundamental rights, of applicable regulatory approaches, as well as international and EU co-operation. The conference will be articulated around these four themes.Aiming to attract at least 150 participants, including high-level political speakers and prominent international experts, this full-day event will be a timely debate between the organised civil society, academics, researchers and key stakeholders from the ICT industry, NGOs, think tanks and the media, as well as EU and national policy-makers.
