The news:
The Commission is to make recommendations to Romania for further action to guarantee the rule of law and independence of the judiciary.
The background:
In July 2012, the Commission reported on Romania's progress since 2007 under the co-operation and verification mechanism (CVM). At the time the Commission made 10 specific recommendations to help resolve the controversies in the country on the rule of law and independence of the judiciary. The Commission will review the progress made over the last six months and make further recommendations.
