Trade ministers, meeting within the Foreign Affairs Council, are expected to adopt the negotiating directives for a comprehensive trade and investment agreement between the European Union and the United States of America (the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership).
The Council will also take stock of the state of play concerning negotiations on the EU-Canada Free Trade Agreement (CETA), which were launched in May 2009 and are now reaching their final phase Ministers will have a policy debate, on the basis of a Presidency note, concerning preparations for the 9th World Trade Organization ministerial conference, which will be held in Bali, Indonesia, from 3 to 6 December 2013.
Furthermore, the Council will take note, under other business, of the state of play on the negotiations with the European Parliament concerning the legal modifications updating a range of trade policy regulations, generally designated as Omnibus I and Omnibus II.
Ministers will discuss the EU's trade relations with China, in particular the negotiations for an investment agreement, as well as trade defence issues, which include anti-dumping, anti-subsidy and safeguards measures.
A presidency briefing, agenda and background note will be published on the Council website closer to the date of the meeting.
